This vibrant work on paper by Gary Simmons depicts stenciled text which reads POST NO BILLS, in three lines of capital letters. The text is in black, on a colorfiul field of bright yellow at the top, blending to bright red at the bottom, with orange between. The letters are smudged with vertical streaks, rendering the text almost illegible and more abstract. This work has irony and mimics a flyer which is often pasted on Manhattan construction site board fencing and scaffolding, and is meant to deter people and businesses from posting announcements such as those for concerts and other promotions.
