|Jennifer Bartlett: Works on Paper 1995-2006
24 November 22 December, 2006
Opening reception Friday, November 24, 6-8 pm
The Baldwin Gallery is pleased to present a retrospective of works on paper by acclaimed contemporary artist Jennifer Bartlett. This show will present both pastel and charcoal drawings, depicting seascape and mountain landscapes. In her “Amagansett Series,” she explores her personal link to eastern Long Island, and the distinct look of the mid-Atlantic seaside garden. Bartlett expands her attachment to landscape drawing in her series of brilliantly colored pastel work done on her world travels, including Iceland, the Bermuda Islands and Sun Valley, Utah. In 1995, Harley Baldwin and the Baldwin Gallery, commissioned her to come to Aspen to do black white charcoal sketches of the mountains that form the Aspen valley area. Also included in this show, are a series of colored pastels that mark Bartlett’s debut as an opera designer.
Jennifer Bartlett was born in 1941 in Long Beach, California. She received her M.F.A. from Yale in 1965. She has exhibited her work in some of the most prestigious exhibitions of our time including the Venice and Paris Biennials, and the Whitney Biennial Exhibitions. Her works are widely collected privately and by museums throughout the world. She has had major one-person exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Baltimore Museum of Art; Albright Knox Gallery, Buffalo; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; Museum of Art, Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh; The Brooklyn Museum; Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City; The Cleveland Museum of Art; and the Milwaukee Museum of Art.
